Starting a Path

June 12, 2017

Navigating life this side of heaven is not easy. There is no exact formula or template to follow. We have the world, our flesh, and the enemy of our soul to trip us, tumble us into a pit or create obstacles that prevent us from growing into God’s fullness, an existence we were originally created for.

If you are a Christian, a follower of Christ, who has surrendered over and over again to Him and yet find yourself deeply stuck, lacking joy or freedom, you are in the right place. I’m not just saying here at this site, but right where you are, in this very moment. Perhaps you desire so much more for your Christian faith. You may be familiar with God’s promises in the bible and you may even know what the scripture says about what you are going through; yet there is no movement in your soul. You know the truth, but are not quite sure how to live the truth. Hang in there! There is a path for you…God’s unique path for you.

“How does one take this path?” you might ask.

It will take a lot of work, tons of prayer and diving into God’s word.

“Well, I’ve been doing this and I am not getting anywhere!”

Don’t give up!  Proverbs 2:1-8 says:

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.

Some of us are just starting this path, some have been on it for a bit, and others for a long time. Let’s start afresh. Grab your bible, a journal or any blank page – electronic or paper. Commit that blank page to God. Start writing. Ask him to lead you to those hidden, locked up places. Continue to write. You may feel blank, write just a word or two down, or the words may flow from your heart like a broken dam. Perhaps writing is not your thing. Start talking to God. Share what you are currently burdened with, hurting over or even angry about. Invite God in to those deep and hidden shadows of your heart. Continue to do this over and over and over again. This is just one step of many that will lead you toward freedom. He wants to love you there and draw you into a beautiful and abundant life in Him. I promise. Wait…HE promises!!

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”   John 10:10

Note:  This is a recommendation for what we can do on our own to pursue freedom from patterns we are stuck in. I understand that counseling and other forms of help may be necessary to accomplish this. I pray God provides His path we each need in our pursuit to be more like Christ.
