Come to Jesus

November 7, 2022

I took my kids to the Harvest Crusade last night, and while it was good on so many levels, something was missing. With QR codes flashing on the screen, movie promotions, and fireworks after the sinner’s prayer, dare I say it felt commercial. Perhaps I’m speaking from an older generation, however, I am left wondering if we need all of the extras, even in this high tech generation.

I have no room to criticize Harvest Crusade. Thousands have come to Christ and many more will come at future crusades, but I think a simple message with the Spirit drawing those to him – is enough.

When Jesus walked this earth, there were no special effects, technology, or any researched method to reach the broken. Along the road, at a well, or on a hilltop, he simply shared truth, the gospel truth that he came to save the lost. He came to heal, to restore our broken relationship with God our Father, and he came to cover our sin so we may have eternal life with him. Jesus’ message is simple and pure, and that is enough for us to be drawn to him.

Your words ring true with me, Eileen. Having worked for The Salvation Army for four years, I see the beauty of a simple message of Christ’s saving love that God has used to open many hearts to faith in Him. They’re not a flashy group, but a kind & generous one who is consistent in their gospel message and unconditional love.

Thank you for your beautiful message today,
    Margaret 🪴
